14 military observers carry out
tasks in UN Mission to Congo.
According to the resolution of
the UN Security Council #1291(2000) the deployment of UN
Mission to Congo was started. The total strength of
military personnel will be 5537 including up to 500 UN
military observers as well as civilian personnel.
Main tasks:
- to monitor the implementation
of cease-fire agreement and investigation of
cease-fire violations;
- to set and maintain constant
liaison with HQs of Armed Forces of Warring Parties,
involved in the conflict;
- to collect and check the
military information about troops of Parties,
observance of cease-fire agreement by Parties;
- to conduct disarmament,
demobilization of all armed groups;
- to free prisoners-of-war and
detained persons during combat operations,
- to provide humanitarian help
and to monitor human rights;
- to conduct demining activity.
