UN Mission to Georgia

Military observers – 5.

The Mission was established on 24 August 1993 according to the UN Security Council Resolution # 858 (1993) in order to monitor the implementation of cease-fire agreement, signed by the Government of Georgia and representatives of Abkhazia.

The Mission strength – 104 Military observers. Mission HQ is located in Sukhumi. Chief Military Observer – Major General Anis Akhmed Badgva (Pakistan).

 

The main tasks of the Mission:

  • To monitor and check the implementation of cease-fire agreement and separation of forces by Georgian and Abkhazian Parties;
  • To observe the activity of peacekeeping forces of CIS;
  • To monitor the security zone;
  • To observe the storage areas of heavy weapons.
